TOWNSEND SET FOR PALACE RETURN
West Brom manager Slaven Bilic is hopeful that left-sided defender Conor Townsend will return to the starting XI ahead of the visit of South London club Crystal Palace in the Premier League. Slaven Bilic and his players welcome the Eagles to the Hawthorns on Sunday in what’s was one of the matches on matchday 11 in the English top flight. Conor Townsend is expected to be fit for the Palace game after he went off injured in the last game, a 1-0 win over bottom club Sheffield United.
Conor Townsend went off injured during the matchday 10 clash at home to the Blades last week Saturday after he picked up a knee injury. He had received treatment on the injury before West Brom boss Bilic opted not to aggravate the injury by subbing him off.
The defender was replaced by midfielder Matt Philips with fifteen minutes left to play. Conor Townsend has played as a left-back and as a left wing back for the Baggies in the Premier League this season. He has made the left side of the West Brom defence his own with some impressive performances on the back of replacing the more experienced Kieran Gibbs.
Ex-Gunners defender Gibbs had lost his place in the West Brom line-up after he was stupidly sent off in the first half of the Everton game on matchday two. With the red card, the Baggies were thrashed 5-2 by hosts Everton.
Conor Townsend and West Brom secured their first win of the season in the Premier League at the tenth time of asking courtesy the 1-0 win over Sheffield United at home. Conor Gallagher scored the only of the game on 13 minutes to give the Baggies a crucial win. Young English midfielder Gallagher is on loan at West Brom from West London giants Chelsea.
